Compo Beach

We usually celebrate New Year's Day with a walk on the beach. This year, we went a few days early. It was completely freezing and we only made it a few hundred yards. My brother and his family joined us, and the two kids warmed themselves by running around on the snow-covered playground. My brave niece dashed to the water's edge while the rest of us huddled near the pavilion, those summer shelters of showers and shade now serving as shields against the arctic wind pounding the shore.
